Adventures in Twin Potty Training: Day 4

Editor's Note:  I wrote this post in real-time, though I've waited a while to publish it.  Why?  Check out this recap.  Now, cue the time machine and let's back up a few weeks...

Adventures in Twin Potty Training: Day 4

Mood:  Pining for the diaper days where I was in charge.

Hopes:  That I can avoid power struggles, make wearing underwear seem like the best reward ever, and that Dad gets some accident duty today.

Fears:  Going stir-crazy.  That yesterday was not a fluke.

Reality:  The day started with two major accidents for Dad.  (I felt kinda bad about this, because he got up early with the kids and let me stay in bed for a while.)  And by the time I got downstairs to help he had nixed the underwear.  Turns out, Addison liked the idea of underwear.  So we used that and by mid-morning she seemed ready to do the right thing to earn them back.  Caden had nary a problem without his on.  And didn't seem to care one way or the other about underwear.

Also, after reading the chapter on potty training dilemmas last night, I decided to try to:  stop prompting and reminding, use short commands and small words, and basically back off of everything (expectations, my physical proximity, tone).  And what do you know.  When I gave up control, they quick fighting me and starting taking care of themselves.  Addison even pranced over to the potty right before lunch and after two back-to-back false alarms that I didn't even comment on, she popped out a #2 like she'd been doing it for years.

Final Editor's Note:  Want to avoid a tug-of-war (power struggle) with your kids?  Give up your end of the rope.  Nothing to fight for then.  (This little nugget of wisdom is courtesy of oh crap. potty training.  While it may not work immediately, it doesn't take long!
