Hold My Hand

Another sign that the kids are growing up (as if I needed more)?  They're just too big to carry at the same time like I used to.  Gone are the days of picking them up out of both their cribs and heading downstairs without even breathing hard.  I mean, in a pinch I can scoop them up and dash.  But my back then has to become good friends with the heating pad for a week or so.  This presents an interesting dilemma in places like the park or a friend's house.  How to get from the car to the destination without dragging the double stroller with us, and without looking like a gaggle of geese playing tag.  The obvious answer is walking while holding hands.  But the reality is that Caden and Addison don't walk at the same speed.  Don't find the same things interesting.  And certainly don't want the same things at the same time.  Kind of a problem when you're trying to navigate a parking lot safely.  Or when you're a quarter mile (uphill) from your home and your back is already screaming, "No, no, no, no, no!"  Ah yes, another joy of twindom...

We are working hard at learning to walk safely, together.  Holding hands.  Taking turns and being patient.  Following directions.  And they're getting it...  s-l-o-w-l-y.  One power struggle at a time.  It's not such a big deal when things are going swimmingly, like our recent park-play-date with fellow twin-friends Landon and Emory.  Addison was quite pleased to take a walk together with the group.  And so, she linked up with Emory right away.  Caden on the other hand, was none too pleased to be leaving the playground and therefore was not about to hold anyone's hand.  Mine included.  Hence, no cutie-cute picture of him and Landon : (  Note to self:  Perhaps next time I should ask Caden to hold Emory's hand.  Because I can't imagine him refusing to hold hands with such a beautiful girl!
