Week 18: Tummy Tracker

The past week has found me sleeping better through the night and having a harder time bending over to reach something on the floor without grunting or squatting down as if I have a back brace on. Apparently two babies make for a more difficult bend at the waist!

Travis and I haven't been walking as much, because I've had several evening get-togethers with girlfriends and he's been working late on his orders. We'll get back on track when he returns from his business trip out west next week!

Reflux and heartburn are easily controlled with some OTC meds (doctor approved) and the iron supplements are going fine, now that my hunger is back to normal and I can delay eating when I need to. The doctor recommends I take it 30 minutes before I eat, so I usually take it first thing in the morning and then eat when I get to school for good measure. I also found out that it is totally fine to get my hair highlighted, multiple times if I want. In the doctor's words "you'd have to drink the stuff to cause any concern". So I'm off to the salon next week... Yay! Speaking of next week, here it what the babies will be up to...

Their sensory development is exploding; their brains will be designating specialized areas for smell, taste, hearing, vision, and touch. Some research suggests that they may be able to hear our voices now so the speaking to the belly has begun!

The babies will each weigh about 8 1/2 ounces and measure 6 inches, head to bottom —
about the size of a large heirloom tomato. Their arms and legs are in the right proportions to each other and the rest of the body now. Kidneys will continue to make urine and the hair on her scalp is sprouting. A waxy protective coating called the vernix caseosa is forming on their skin to prevent it from pickling in the amniotic fluid.

And if it looks like the belly has grown now, just wait for the next few weeks. Those babies are supposed to start another growth spurt soon!

Wow! Two babies make a big difference. I don't even think you could even tell I was pregnant at 18 weeks.
