We've been noticing for a while now, that the kids compete for my attention at night. Specifically during baths and bedtime routines. And I have to say, I think it's less about each of them wanting me. And more about not wanting the other one to have me. Because I see that behavior all the time when they're playing with toys. Addison doesn't love tractors like Caden does, but boy she sure does love watching him get hopping mad as she plops down on his John Deere like she's going to camp out!
At first we tried to be structured, and take turns with the kids. So that everyone got their fair share of Mommy and Daddy time. But this didn't really do much to stop the pleading for a turn with Mommy (another evidence for my theory). So we've decided to modify our routines. For a week or so anyway, just to see if it reduces the competition thing. While one of us stays downstairs to clean up the kitchen, take out the trash and straighten the playroom, the other will do baths, books and putting the kids down for bed. Stay tuned for an update on the results of our little experiment...
