So I peeked in on the playroom the other day without being detected... and found this : ) : )
The kids have discovered how to make their own balance beam out of cardboard building blocks. At first it was a simple walkway. But now they've started building steps and off ramps. Ha! Pretty soon we'll have clover leaf interchanges...
They do occasionally fall and get hurt. And so at first I tried to curb this little obsession, but every time I'm out of sight the blocks came out again. Which led me to decide that this is a risk I'm willing to take*. They are getting great practice with balancing skills, spatial awareness and body control. And sometimes they even work together and problem solve during construction/testing!
*Since I typed this post, the kids conferred and thought it would be awesome to start making steps that are three+ blocks high (cringe). They also noticed that each color of block only fit through a few of the small windows I'd cut into the cardboard playroom. Which meant that the house floor stays knee-deep in blocks with both kids inside, stepping over, on and around the blocks (and each other). Holding onto the flimsy upside-down walls for support (cringe). So from here on, I will have to keep the blocks out of the playroom unless I'm there to directly supervise.
