After trying it several different ways, I've discovered the safest way to use the step stool at the sink is actually sideways. If you go front ways there's a gap that the kids have to lean over to reach the sink, which is dangerous. And there's about a 1,000% chance that gallons of water are going to get dumped in that gap. So sideways it is. The kids are actually pretty good at going up and down "the safe way", (hands on the rail, facing the steps) and going one at a time. They've also responded well to using the oven timer to help keep the turn-taking under control. Now, to figure out a way to keep the water in the sink...
