We've got three mirrors that they can access regularly. The ones they use the most are the wavy ones from IKEA that we hung above their toddler table. These extend about five feet so they run the full length of the table plus some. And offer a nice reflection of light when not being used by the kids. Side note: We can now see their faces when they're turned toward the table/wall. Mucho beneficial.
We also have a mirror in the playroom which I repurposed and hung during our last playroom update. They don't use this as much but I'm hoping that will change as they begin to engage in dress-up play. Occasionally, they'll notice that the potty is in the line of sight of the mirror though, and then they seem content to sit longer. One thing is for sure, I've got to figure out a way to anchor the sucker better. Three hangers are not enough, as I came into the playroom one day to find it hanging by a corner. I'm thinking super glue.
The last mirror is something I made after reading the DIY explanation from the link above. Only I used four super-cheap mirror squares from IKEA. And even better, when fully unfolded the mirrors are exactly the length of the kids' table! Hooray for unplanned perfection!! I can also stand them up to make a backdrop in a semi-circle or in a zig-zag, but I haven't done that much since we installed the wavy mirrors. Bonus: The packing tape is easily removed from the back, making them quite versatile.
I'm so glad that the mirrors have turned out to be more than just decoration. They've really added to our play and exploration!
