Dear Grammy, Grampy, Gram Z and Pop,
I love you. For all the big and small things you do for me. For all the times that you have honored my spirit and treasured my thoughts. For the grace you have given and the love you have lavished. For the mistakes you let me make and the successes you supported. For the way you have worried, prayed and believed. For the way you worry, pray and believe now. For letting me see what it means to parent with integrity. And for showing me such love as I try to put my observations into practice with my own children.
It is a delight to see you love your grandchildren, as you must have loved Travis and I when we were tiny. With wonder. With abandon. With a depth that cannot be measured. I understand that love now.
I know its power. For it shaped me. Sheltered me. Stretched me.
I know its promise. For it gave us Caden and Addison.
I know its possibility. For it extends beyond reason, distance and time... from your life, to mine and now to my children’s.

Too bad we can't understand that kind of love until we become parents ourselves. It's an amazing kind of love, isn't it??
