Fast forward to the fair. The whole family enjoyed a brisk morning out and spent about two hours taking in all the sights and sounds. I guess the kids were on sensory overload because this is what they looked like the entire time.
They saw their first live farm animals, which really impressed Addison. She stared wide-eyed at them, as if she was thinking, "You don't look at all like the books show!" She dutifully answered with the correct animal sounds when we asked what each animal said, but whispered as if in complete awe. Caden, he looked at everything the same way. Like everything about the fair impressed him about as much as a bath towel. Ah well, all-in-all it was fun. The kids saw lots of "firsts" and we all enjoyed being together for the morning.
Fast forward to the afternoon, when I got brave and broke out some waterbeads (as suggested by this amazing blog which I am so grateful to my friend Sarah for recommending). The kids took their first look and quickly got busy feeling with their hands. Then Addison wanted to walk in the beads, and we soon had two sets of feet in the tub.
Naturally, sitting was next. Times two.
And throwing. Lots of throwing. At first I tried to keep the beads in the container, until I realized that rule was really for my benefit not theirs. (And until I realized that I wasn't going to win that battle no matter how hard I tried.) What I really wanted at the end of the day was for my babies to fully experience a new medium. So we bounced (man do those things bounce!), dropped, poured, stirred, and played ourselves silly. Tomorrow I think we'll put them in the bathwater with us for even more fun.
Oh and one last thing. Just when you wonder how much is going on their little heads... tonight at dinner Addison looked at my t-shirt totally unprompted and said... "Pig!" (It's a Piggly Wiggly shirt with this image on it--though my shirt is pink.) Guess the fair was more of a success than I thought! On that note, I am calling it a day. No telling what amazing developments and experiences tomorrow will bring!
