Happy First Birthday Babies!!

What a magical day!! Travis took the day off (yay!) to be with Caden and Addison for a few more "firsts"... We started the day with a trip to a super-awesome park near our old condo.  The kids loved strolling around, seeing the big kid equipment, and they loved their first time in toddler swings so very much!! As soon as they got seated, they immediately turned to each other and started giggling. Not sure why the entire park didn't come over to watch, it was seriously that cute. Even cuter, they giggled louder, as they swung a little higher and faster. And true to their personalities, Addison wouldn't relax. She sat straight up in the seat, supported only by her hands on the front of the swing belt, with this wide-eyed joyful abandon. Caden on the other hand just laid back and enjoyed the moment with a relaxed smile.  Later on in the day we went out to Chick-Fil-A for the babies' first kid's meal. They shared the 4 nugget meal with fruit and water--between them they didn't even finish a third of it. There was just so much to see it was hard to focus! They looked so grown up in the high chairs and seemed to be so excited to be part of all the action... they did quite a bit of people watching, food pushing around and grabbing for our stuff. In fact I was so enjoying watching them take everything in that I don't really remember eating.  Then the sweet manager asked if we'd like some free ice cream for the babies' birthday (can you tell we were announcing it to anyone who would listen??). Another first checked off! The kids liked the first taste of vanilla ice cream, then the cold hit them and it wasn't as much fun any more. Ah well, Travis and I figured it was our duty to finish it off...  I can hardly believe how grown up they look in these pictures, and how grown up they seem in real life!!  The rest of our day was filled with more normal pursuits... but the day was so sweet, knowing that we were celebrating an entire year as a family of four. Surviving 365 days as parents of twins. And honoring the beautiful lives we have been entrusted to nurture.  We sang them "Happy Birthday" in our best lullaby voices as we carried them up the stairs tonight. And as we laid them in their beds, we hoped that their day was just a tiny bit as wonderful as ours was being with them.  "Heaven blew every trumpet and played every horn, on the wonderful, marvelous night you were born."  (Nancy Tillman)
