Diaper Rash Drama, Part I

Well, we can't complain. The kids have hardly had any diaper rash at all. I mean ever. But yesterday afternoon it was clear that Addison had a mild, but nonetheless yucky case of it. And unless she was sleeping, she's been pantless ever since! The girl has been loving life so much that Caden decided to get a little rashy too, just so he could join in on the fun this afternoon.  All in all, today was a great day. Kids slept well, the rashes are looking better, and we didn't have too many catastrophes. Here's how it went by the numbers:
  • 8 accidents (Addison wore diapers to nap and sleep overnight, Caden didn't join in the fun until later-afternoon so he didn't contribute until then)
  • 2 pack n' play sheets washed
  • 1 comforter and 2 quilts washed
  • 6 wetpads washed
  • several areas on the hardwood and linoleum cleaned
  • countless cloth diapers and toys washed
  • feeding chairs washed 3 times
  • 1 double bath
  • 1 fall-flat
Wondering about the fall-flat? It happened like this... Detective Mom had been following Addison around all morning on "poop patrol". Piddles didn't bother me as much, I mean how much can go wrong in that scenario right?!? And with Caden not in the mix yet, it seemed possible to prevent a major clean up with extra vigilance. So I started patroling and didn't get out of sight all morning. But at some point the kids had to eat. So by lunchtime, with a few piddles under our belt but Addison still poop-less, I stepped into the kitchen to warm the bottles. All was well when I returned. With a little less anxiety this time, I returned to see if the bottles were ready. They were actually too warm, and as I set them aside to cool I heard a thud. Racing around the corner before the cry could come, Detective Mom encountered the crime scene...  There lay Addison, flat on her back with arms above her head in a very large piddle-puddle. The piddle tracks told this seasoned detective that the accident had occurred a few steps to her left, and that she had slipped and fallen while trying to negotiate a corner. Her cries told me she was one part hurt, one part scared, and one part totally grossed out. And who could blame the girl? As I picked her up and started for the changing table, I deftly noted that Caden was heading for the puddle and before I could head him off he had planted himself squarely in the middle of the action (puddle). I had one wet and crying baby in my arms, another wet baby at my feet getting ready to put his splashing skills to use. So what was this mama to do? Well, I laughed a little to myself for about a half-second. Then my super powers kicked in, and with Addison in my arms I somehow scooped Caden up from the floor, stepped over the puddle and made it up the stairs to the bath with everyone intact.  Apparently the bath was more fun than the downstairs adventure because Addison immediately started smiling when her feet hit the tile. (Caden was already smiling, but he perked up too when his pants came off.) And perhaps that was when Caden decided a rash might be worth all the fun!  Thank goodness the rashes are already looking better. Not sure this mama could make it through a whole week of double diaper rash drama!

Sounds like an adventurous day, Jenn!!!! Wait till potty training begins. Lol! You're gonna have a blast.
We always did good in the diaper rash area too. However, Izzy got a tid bit a couple of times. The best thing I found (better than any diaper rash cream) was the A + D Ointment. Not the kind that is just for diaper rash, but the yucky smelling stuff that comes in the yellow package. That stuff is amazing! Diaper rash was always gone after putting it on just one time. It's good for lots of other stuff too.
Love you guys and can't wait to see you soon!!!!

Oh, and another tid-bit of info...
Expressed BM heals all! I know it sounds terrible, but you can rub it on any kind of boo-boo and it will heal super fast. My mid-wife told me to put it on cuts, rashes, in noses when they are runny, eyes when they have a cold in them, etc. It really works, as bizarre as it sounds. Just rub it on and let it air dry. I promise that it really works miracles!
