Week 23: Tummy Tracker

What are the babies up to this week??? Growing steadily! They will gain about 4 ounces this week. That puts them at just over a pound each. Since they are almost a foot long now (picture an ear of corn), they are still pretty lean but their bodies are filling out proportionally and will soon start to plump up. Their brains are also growing quickly and taste buds are continuing to develop. Lungs are developing "branches" of the respiratory "tree" as well as cells that produce surfactant, a substance that will help their air sacs inflate once they greet the outside world. Their skin is still thin and translucent, but that will start to change soon... Check out what fraternal twins look like at 24 weeks...

What are the parents up to this week??? Making preparations! Picking out paint, selling and getting rid of stuff we don't use, researching products, completing a few house projects, and reading up on all things "twin". I had fun last night laying out newspapers cut to the size of our cribs... Our nursery is going to be so sweet, and even sweeter with our precious little ones in it. We can't wait to see them again soon on an ultrasound! We love them so, already...
