Dancing has been an important part of our story together so we decided to use the title of a great dance tune for our blog. It should play automatically, and you can listen to some of our other favs by clicking on the links below. While dancing isn't everything, some of the best things in life happen on the dance floor. Here are my top 5:
5. You learn to let go. Making up the steps as you go is pretty freeing once you get over the insecurity of not having choreography to follow.
4. You widen your circle. Since I started dancing I've met people from all over the country and beyond. Some even turned out to be fantastic friends with whom I have amazing memories.
3. Sometimes you lead, sometimes you follow. As a girl, typically I follow. Sometimes you dance defensively, other times you get a leader that is so good they lead you through moves you don't even know. Occasionally, you can deftly steal the lead away and then give it back without anyone but you and your partner knowing. And as Ginger Rogers said, you're often doing it all backwards and in high heels.
2. You dream bigger. Before swing dance entered my life, my dreams were pretty standard. Costumes, drama, and big social events weren't really a part of my to-do list. But before I knew it I was dreaming entirely new dreams for myself. And somewhere along the way #1 happened.
1. Love finds you. I met Travis when I asked him to dance. The week before, I had bailed on asking a really cute guy to dance and I didn't intend on letting the opportunity pass me by twice. So when I noticed him that night, I asked. He said yes and our journey began! A few weeks and about a hundred swingouts later we had our first date. Our story started on the dance floor.
Next up, Travis' list!
