Too Quiet
Yesterday I got the kids up from their naps and headed off to the potty with Caden. Since I had just picked up a whole new set of books from the library, I assumed that Addison would amuse herself by browsing for a minute until we returned. While in the bathroom with Caden, it got real quiet. Too quiet even for reading, so we headed back and my eyes darted all over the nursery for the girl that I assumed was into mischief somewhere. Behind the cribs? Nope. Behind the recliner? Nope. It's at this point that I start rewinding, thinking "No, I'm positive she didn't pass the bathroom and head to the stairs." So I turned around and headed into my room. To find a perfectly made bed, with one little Addison tucked neatly into Dad's side. Resting her head on his pillow, and with Lovie in her hands, there was not even a wrinkle on the sheets. Her little eyes were squinched shut, as they often do when you're forcing yourself to look like you're asleep. And when Caden and I laughed, "Addison!!" she burst awake and just giggled. At us for having lost her. At herself for having fooled us. And at the look that surely was on my face. I think I've been warned...
