Adventures in Potty Training: Day 13-793,281

Editor's Note:  I wrote this post in real-time, though I've waited a while to publish it.  Why?  Check out this recap.  Now, cue the time machine and let's back up a few weeks...

Day 13

Mood:  Anxious

Hopes:  Another dry preschool morning?!?  Probably impossible, but a mom can dream!

Fears:  That they'll have accidents and will be embarrassed.

Reality:  They BOTH stayed dry.  Again.  And I managed to walk to the car balancing two gingerbread houses in one hand and holding both kids' hands with the other.  Can you say multitasking?!?

Editor's Note:  Lest I give the impression we have this thing down, Caden still has daily accidents.  But Addison's gone almost a week dry now...  at least we're headed in the right direction.

Day 15

Mood:  Blah.  As in, this thing is happening the way it's going to happen.  Cheerfulness will not make it happen any faster, nor will dread make it last longer.  It is what it is.  And so am I.

Hopes:  That today will be the (dry) day for Caden...

Fears:  That he doesn't care about our red choice = consequences policy.  Which will send me back to the drawing board.

Reality:  Caden woke me with, "Caden doesn't feel good".  He had a temp.  He threw up on me as I carried him down the stairs.  There were two accidents by lunch time (one each... yes, the girl who'd been dry for a week finally had one).  And... you get the idea.  Also, Addison informs me that her teeth hurt.  Which normally I'd attribute to her wanting equal attention (or wanting the "feel good medicine" that Caden was getting).  But no, she's teething molars.  Fun. Times. At. Our. House.

Editor's Note: On the plus side, we spent alot of time reading today because Caden mostly wanted to sit and be held.  Which was nice.  Who can complain about being cuddled up with your twindles on the sofa and churning through a stack of Christmas books while snuggling under a blanket.  TWINBLISS!

Day From Here To Eternity

Mood:  Over it already.

Hopes:  That Santa brings Mommy some sleep for Christmas.

Fears:  That sickness + the excitement of Christmas + having lots of family at our house doesn't = a sudden regression for one or both kids.

Reality:  If potty training were like learning to ride a bike Addison would now be on a ten-speed doing laps around me in the parking lot.  Caden would still have training wheels on, but he's got the idea and basic skills down.  Of course, this is only with non-sleeping times.  And we haven't even tried to go to a public restroom yet.  So we've still got a looooong way to go.  But I'm trying to focus on what we have done, and celebrate that.

Editor's Note:  Merry Christmas to me!!  Twins in underwear this Christmas!!
