The kids have investigated pineapples before. But this time I got in the floor with them, cutting board in hand and let them watch as I cut and sliced. The rule was, they had to sit on the floor mat while I cut just out of reach. And the whole time we talked (for like the billionth time) about how knives are for grown ups, not for kids. I dutifully narrated each action and asked them questions as we went. I just love these teachable moments. You can see the neurons firing! And they were very attentive, I have to say. They loved it when I sliced off the top and seemed to like running their fingers over the slippery insides and then licking them... They thought it was interesting to see the prickly outsides come off to reveal the sweet yellow inside. And they especially liked tasting the resulting cubed pineapple! Of course I couldn't film any of that while the knife was involved. But this video shows what they did when I plopped the whole thing in the floor with them before we dissected...
