Eggs-cellent: Part II

I'm fairly positive that I am a manic mom.  Because some days I don't think I can do anything and other days I think I can do everything.  After the Part I adventure, I wasn't sure I should take on any more eggs-cellent adventures.  But it was the week before Easter.  And I wanted to do some neat stuff for and with my kids.  So I went manic.  And lined up a bunch of projects.  Some of which were not a good return on my investment of time and effort, but all of which made me feel very festive.  Very accomplished.  And very Eastery.

I made cake pops and decorated them to look like eggs.  Only mine didn't turn out as well as these.  (Scroll all the way down for the egg pop pics.)  They did, however, taste good.  And the kids enjoyed trying to eat them off the sticks...

Then I made Easter cookies.  From scratch.  With homemade simple icing.  And decorated them.  And the kids...  were not impressed.  They swiped about three times with the edible markers I bought for them, then munched a little on the plain cookie.  Then they piled on the decorations when I gave them an iced cookie, but refused to take more than one bite.  Sadly, the grown ups had to eat most of the cookies instead.  But what can I say, you do what you have to do right?

Then I we dyed eggs in Kool-aid after being inspired by this post.  2/3 cup water to one package of Kool-aid, any water temp works fine.  The dye worked really fast, and smelled great, but was easily smeared if touched before drying.  Plus the kids didn't really care too much about anything except smelling the liquid and unceremoniously plopping the eggs in.

Late in the week, I got inspired to make some egg puzzles.  Which the kids have showed only mild interest in.  First I cut a large egg shape from some old manilla folders.  Then I glued it onto the backs of different colors of scrap book paper.  After cutting the eggs out (now sturdy with the addition of the manilla folders) I chopped each one into two pieces.  Some with zig-zags.  Some with horizontal lines, some vertical, etc.

I just left them out one day for the kids to find.  They kinda-sorta matched them.  But mostly they liked stacking them and drilling them.  (Yes, drilling.)

I found these little beauties for $0.99 at Michael's.  After I glued the eyes and tails down because they were extra small, I let the kids assemble the rest on their felt boards and add them to their tea party scene.

The the big day, Easter arrived!  And the kids came downstairs to find their Easter treats...

The pink and blue bunny hand puppets have turned out to be the big winner from the Easter basket stash.  Caden may love his as much as his lovie in fact.  But they also have really enjoyed the little pop up figures, their duck necklaces (we haven't bothered to show them that they're bubble necklaces yet) and new play dough with tiny shape cutters.  And of course, all the eggs.  Both real and plastic.  A much different scene than last year, where they basically sat next to their bags and looked at the camera.  It was so much fun watching them discover, explore and get excited over their second lollipop licking lesson (I forgot to mention the lollipop stash in each Easter bag).  I gave them their first one back in February for our Valentine's Day photo shoot which really only resulted in massive amounts of drool.  But apparently there is something special about Dad.  Because after his lesson the kids were licking away like pros.

Finally, we rounded out the week with some baby chicks.  No Pop, not the little fuzzy kind... the delicious kind!  They aren't as beautiful as these but the kids sure love them...

That's what I call and eggs-cellent week.  But boy, am I glad I don't have to do it again for a while...  Back to my I-can-hardly-do-anything self!
