A Day Off Isn't What It Used To Be

While my parents were here for a few days, I was able to get lots of things done in a short amount of time. But as I was knocking things out, I remembered... what a day off used to be like. Sleeping late. Taking a bath and then painting my toenails. Watching a movie, junk TV or having dinner with friends. Or if I felt like it, having popcorn for dinner as I lounged on the couch. Well, not so much anymore. What did I do with the time off this week? Here’s a sampling:

  • I wandered Target. Every department. Thinking of what would be the best buy. (I left with dish towels, page protectors, underwear and a candy bar... Livin' it up!!) I did all this as I waited to...
  • Get a flu shot at 8:30 pm. Oh yeah. I’m a wild and crazy Mama.
  • I clipped, sorted and filed coupons. Then I...
  • Grocery shopped and went down every aisle, just in case something was on sale.
  • I did laundry until I found the bottom of the hampers again.
  • I visited consignment stores, looking for things that the babies might use.
  • I consigned a few things they no longer need as well. And God is good... I earned the exact dollar amount that I spent!
  • I shopped the mall. The entire mall. Looking for good deals that were trendy so I could use my birthday money. And shocker, I left empty handed.
  • I cooked. For a couple of hours. But I now have lots of leftovers that we can eat on for days.

Yep, my toenail polish is chipped and my house is still dirty... but getting this stuff off my to-do list felt amazing nonetheless. As amazing as ice cream on the couch with my husband as we watch premier TV? Hmmm, maybe I better test that out...
