Warm As Toast.... Now

Last week, our heater went kaput. On the coldest day of the year. Travis brought in an old kerosene heater from his Durham days as I called around. Thankfully, were able to find someone who bumped us to the top of the list (b/c of the twins) and we had a service technician working on the furnace in about an hour.  He found a loose bolt that had caused the shut down (YAY for something minor!) and a whole bunch else (BOO, HISS) some of which was fairly major. The unit was already twelve years old, so we opted to replace it. However, replacing it would take another 24 hours. I'd already spent six hours in a cold house with the babycicles and I wasn't about to stay for another one.

I packed the little snowmen cheeks (and all their gear) and moved them 40 yards across the cul de sac to a sweet, sweet neighbor's house. We stayed there the rest of the day, overnight and up until 1:00 the next afternoon when the service techs needed to get into the house and install the thermostat. I then packed the kids and all their gear back up for the short trek home and waited. And waited. In the cold house that was now forty nine degrees, even with the old heater running.  After several more hours of waiting, I finally felt the first waves of warmth and began to breathe a sigh of relief.  What troopers the babies were!  It was so stressful, worrying about the kids, making decisions and trying to be attentive to all the work that was being done... But I think the only thing that was uncomfortable for the kids were diaper changes. You could almost hear them thinking, "Geez Louise Mom, it's COLD!!!" as I unzipped them and worked as fast as I could with my freezing fingers. Other than that they stayed toasty-oasty warm in all their fleece. I was so grateful for having the right gear to keep them warm!!!

You are welcome at our house anytime. We have had that happen to us. It sucks. Our AC went out the first summer in our house.
