All Our Animal Friends

Our little street has been taken over by the animal kingdom... First it was deer. Who are still eating my lilies, hostas and azaleas :( Next it was the bunnies and birds and squirrels, which are fun to watch. Nature can be so sweet and cuddly, like Cottontail here who hopped right up to our back patio and checked out the scene with interest...

The latest animals to join our little kingdom are the hawks that have taken up residence. A nice little family of at least 3, two adults and a younger one who is just starting to lose his fluffy breast feathers. I've seen them sitting on the cab of our neighbors' truck, seen them hunting squirrels in our yard and swooping through the understory. I even saw something falling out of the corner of my eye the other day and turned to see a hawk dropping straight down out of a tree with its wings spread trying to catch a bunny. Thankfully Hopalong was safe and Feathers left empty clawed. Then Sunday, as Trav and I were eating in the kitchen I saw something move just outside the kitchen window. He ran to get the camera, check out what was only a few feet away...
